Please remember that not even Admitted Legal Practitioners know everything. What you do need to work on, is your research skills, so you know where to find the information you need. I am going to give you some links to websites that are helpful here, but will also post links in blog posts relevant to the topic. Please share links on the Candidate Attorney Support Group on Facebook when you find any new ones, so we can start building up a database for everyone to use. I will add your links over time and when we have more, I will categorize them in alphabetical order.
- For updated caselaw and the updated Uniform Rules of Court and Magistrate Court Rules use Saflii – Southern African Legal Information Institute
- Department of Justice: Click on a topic in the top ribbon, like resources or courts to find what you need – Justice/Home
- This is a direct link to the Courts section: Justice/Courts in South Africa Click on “Contact for Magistrate’s Courts” in the right column. You can find all the magistrate’s courts there – names, addresses, services, subdivisions, etc. Everything you need for citing the relevant court on your papers. You will also find all the other Courts there, so no more: “does anyone know how to cite Pofadder Court”. Just go look it up! Use a precedent you have and replace with the relevant information.
- For Maintenance Court forms, you can use this direct link: https://www.justice.gov.za/forms/form_mnt.htm
- The SA Attorneys Journal: https://www.derebus.org.za/ Go and register – they take Candidate Attorneys as well and this is a resource that is updated continuously!
- Labour Law: CCMA website: https://www.ccma.org.za/ Go to “Resources” in the top ribbon. You will find information sheets, rules and legislation and all the forms you need.
